A family firm built on
stone and hard graft
Foster Civil Engineering & Paving Ltd is a family run business established in 2014. We deliver specialist paving, stonemasonry, kerbing and civil engineering across the whole of the North West of England.
How we got here
We started off in 2014 as a father and two sons, John Foster alongside Thomas and James, with no more than a box van and a few hand tools. There was no yard, no fleet and no back office, just a family team who knew how to lay stone and were prepared to graft for the chance to prove it.
Our first contract, in 2014, was meant to be four weeks of civils and specialist paving works in granite materials at Blackburn Cathedral Quarter. It ran for two years. That job, and the reputation we earned on it, is essentially what built the company into what it is today.
Since then we have taken on larger schemes in city and town centres across the North West, and set out for main contractors including Eric Wright Civil Engineering, A E Yates and John Turner Construction. Today most of our work is for the national housebuilders, among them Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon, Bellway, Barratt, Keepmoat and Redrow. We have grown into our own fleet of vehicles, including 7.5t wagons, excavators and other plant, and expanded the workforce so we can take on more work and bigger sites without dropping the standard.
Between the family and our supervisors there is over 30 years of experience in specialist paving, kerbing, stonemasonry and civils. That is the whole basis of the business: heavy civils capability with hand skills that most contractors have to buy in.
How we work
Family run, still
The directors are on the phone and on site. Nothing gets signed off that the family would not be happy to stand next to in ten years.
Self delivered
Directly employed gangs and our own plant. Fewer handovers, fewer excuses, and a programme we can actually control.
Stone done properly
Setting out, cutting, bedding and pointing are done to a standard that survives close inspection in a busy town centre.
Straight talking
If a detail will not work, or a date is unrealistic, you hear it from us early rather than late.

Plant & fleet
Kit on the ground when the site needs it
Our own vehicles and plant include 7.5t wagons, tracked excavators, dumpers, compaction and stone cutting equipment, along with the small tools a paving gang gets through on a granite job. Owning it means we can mobilise quickly, work weekends and night shifts where a town centre demands it, and keep muck away and materials moving without waiting for a hire yard.
Got a scheme to price?
Send us the drawings, the specification or just a description of the site and we will come back to you with a straight answer on programme and price.
